Ans:  In order to reach  land  the sailors decided to continue sailing though they were blown away by the storm about  five hundred leagues to the east . 

2. Why did the captain send some of the sailors to the island ?

Ans: The captain send some of the sailors to the island in order to search for water. 

3. What did Gulliver see which made him run back the way he had come? 

Ans: Gulliver saw a huge creature walking , as fast as he could  , in the sea towards  his men .

4. Why did Gulliver  despair for his life ?

Ans: Gulliver feared that the reapers  approaching near him would reap the corn where he was hiding , as a result of which he despaired for his life . 

5. In what way was his present situation different from that in Lilliput?

Ans: The present situation of Gulliver was far different  from that of Lilliput. When he was at Lilliput ,people saw him as the greatest prodigy that ever appeared in the whole world ,but presently he expected to be a  morsel  in the mouth of those giants. 

6. How did Gulliver convince the farmer that he was a  rational  creature?

Ans: Gulliver’s kind gestures such as pulling off his hat and making a low bow ,felling on his knees ,lifting up his hands and eyes and even trying to speak several words as loudly as he could convinced the giant farmer that he was a  rational creature.

7. How did the farmer’s wife react when she first  saw Gulliver ?

Ans: The farmer’s wife screamed and ran away when she first saw Gulliver.

Ans: The present situation of Gulliver was the same as that of Lilliput’s people who saw him as a giant . Now, when he saw people bigger than him in the new land ,the thought of Lilliput striked him.

b) Explain the meaning of the words : ‘ the greatest prodigy that ever appeared in the world’.

Ans: This words means that , the greatest marvellous thing that human being had ever seen in the whole world .  

c) What  marvellous feats had Gulliver performed in Lilliput?

Ans: Gulliver drew an imperial fleet upon his hands and even performed several actions which were recorded for   ever in the chronicles of that empire. 

2. I apprehended every moment that he would dash me against the ground , as we usually do any little hateful animal which we have a mind to destroy.

a) Who was holding Gulliver captive?

Ans: A giant farmer was holding Gulliver captive. 

b) Why did Gulliver fear that his captor would dash him against the ground?

Ans: As humans normally harm small creatures than them with a destroying mentality ,he felt that the captor would do the same to him, i.e. dashing him against the ground. 

c) What did Gulliver’s  captor do with  him?

Ans: Gulliver’s captor gently put him into a corner of his coat and ran towards his master.
